Welcome to the Bolgoda Lake Sri Lanka website.

The Bolgoda lake, which has a surface area of 347kms is the largest natural lake in Sri Lanka situated in the out skirts of the city of Colombo. It is said that there about 10,000 in different parts of Sri Lanka both natural and man-made which are facing the threat of pollution. We � EMACE –Sri Lanka has taken the initiative of conserving a section of the Bolgoda Lake as a pilot initiative under the generous support of the Global Nature Fund.

We implement strategies to conserve the natural lakes as well as create livelihood programmes for the lower income groups of villagers who live in the peripheral areas of the Bolgoda lake. We have implemented our strategies in several related areas of protecting the environment such as reforestation, green filter, plant nurseries etc. For more details,

Bolgoda, presumed to be the largest natural lake in Sri Lanka, covers almost two thirds of the Kalutara district, extending from Anguruwatota to Piliyandala. It is also the largest fresh water lake in Sri Lanka The lake's depth is said to range from 20-50 feet. Read More...
